Where Has All the Turquoise Gone?

It's no secret that genuine Turquoise is becoming increasingly rare. China has shut down the depleted Hubei mines due to concerns about soil erosion. Hubei Turquoise is a colorful stone, available in vibrant shades of green, blue and brown.

The latest announcement comes from a more well known Turquoise; Sleeping Beauty. The owner of the Sleeping Beauty mine has stopped all production as of December 2012. In addition, nearly all Nevada mines have shut down.

The owner of the Sleeping Beauty mine did not disclose the reason for closing the mine. Expect prices of Sleeping Beauty Turquoise to triple, along with almost all American Turquoise.
