The Truth About Turquoise
Can you identify real Turquoise when you see it? As a jewelry designer, it really upsets me when a customer is sold something that is labelled Turquoise when it's actually Magnesite or dyed Howlite. Sometimes it's difficult to tell the difference, unless you see them side by side. While both Magnesite and Howlite are natural gemstones, neither of them are Turquoise (although they can be turquoise in color).Turquoise varies in color and matrix (the veins of inclusions in the stone) depending on where it is mined. My next post will contain a list of Turquoise mines, and the stone they produce.
Next, we will take a look at the Turquoise from mines in Nevada.
